FAQ

State Forest

If you see trash being dumped on the side of the road, someone engaging in dangerous behavior, a downed tree, a problem with the road, (etc) call the NJ Dep hotline at 1 877 WARN DEP. Report life threatening and or environmental emergencies by calling 911, local police, or the dep’s hotline 1-877-WARNDEP (1-877-927-6337). For non-emergency situations, contact Brendan T. Byrne State Forest office at 609-726-1191

There is a main parking lot that holds about 80 cars, but it can fill up on busy days with horse trailers, hikers, store shoppers, volunteers and more. There is often additional parking behind the Cranberry & Blueberry Museum at the end of the road on the left (the long white building) as well as behind the stage. For very large events we may use the old sand airstrip for vehicle parking and run shuttle buses for visitors

These are questions for the staff at the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest office, located at Highway route 72 East, New Lisbon, NJ 08064 and is open from 8:30am – 4pm Monday – Saturday and their phone number is (609) 726-1191. Blueberries & Cranberries

Blueberry season typically runs from the last week in June to early August. As the birthplace of the modern blueberry we host specialty blueberry events every year including festivals, tours, tastings, blueberry pie eating contests, field trips and more. You can pick in the blueberry fields, we ask is for a $5 donation per person. You can donate in person at the store when open or donate online.

Cranberry season runs typically from late September to the first week in October at Whitesbog. Pine Barrens Native Fruits (https://pbnf.com/) harvests the berries in bogs developed by the same family 5 generations ago. Visitors can respectfully view the harvest from a distance at viewing locations around the bogs (ask for a map or directions at the store). You can not climb in the bog. Whitesbog leads walking tours to watch the harvest and hosts cranberry events including festivals, teas, walks, presentations, field trips, and more. Walkers should bring binoculars, long lens, or zoom camera to get a good picture. At no time should you impede farm staff or equipment. Paths closest to the cranberry bogs are closed during the growing/harvest season to protect the crop. To learn more email us at whitesbogevents@gmail.com
